At its November meeting, the American Physical Society elected Professor Jeffrey C. Grossman, Carl Richard Soderberg Associate Professor of Power Engineering, to Fellowship status. This honor, which is bestowed on no more than one percent of APS members, is recognition by his peers of his outstanding contribution to physics.
Professor Grossman was cited for:
“..important contributions to the development and application of Quantum Monte Carlo methods for electronic structure calculations and the use of first principles methods to predict the properties of materials and nanostructures at the microscopic level.”
Professor Grossman’s research focuses on the application and development of cutting-edge experimental and simulation tools to understand, predict, and design novel materials with applications in energy conversion, energy storage, thermal transport, surface phenomena, and synthesis.
Professor Yoel Fink, Director of RLE commented: “Jeff is an outstanding researcher and educator whose contributions to the understanding of materials and nanostructures are immense with broad impact. As a colleague and friend, I congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition.”
